Even so, physical product safety, medical-device conformity, industrial inspection and cybersecurity assessment should remain resilient.

China

China has a large domestic laboratory and certification ecosystem supported by extensive manufacturing activity. Demand is strongest in electrical equipment, electronics, telecommunications, electric vehicles, batteries, solar equipment, machinery, consumer goods and export inspection.

The China National Accreditation Service accredits laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies and verification organizations. Its international recognition structure helps Chinese manufacturers use accredited test results when entering overseas markets.

Local TIC companies hold important positions in domestic certification and compulsory product requirements. International providers remain competitive in export testing, multinational supply-chain programs and high-end technical services.

Growth will increasingly come from battery systems, charging infrastructure, semiconductor equipment, low-altitude aviation, advanced materials and digital laboratories. CNAS has reported examples where accredited digital testing systems supported hundreds of smaller companies in electronics, telecommunications and smart manufacturing.

Price competition is more intense than in North America or Europe. Scale, automation and local accreditation will therefore be central to profitability.

India

India is expected to record the fastest growth among the major national markets covered. Demand is being supported by electronics manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, renewable energy, food exports, infrastructure development and a wider range of compulsory product standards.

Bureau of Indian Standards certification is voluntary for many products, but Quality Control Orders make compliance with Indian Standards compulsory for notified categories. Certification can require factory assessment, production-control review and third-party laboratory testing.

This directly increases demand for recognized laboratories. Capacity gaps may emerge when new products enter compulsory certification before enough laboratories are available to perform every required test.

International providers are expanding local facilities. In 2026, TÜV Rheinland opened an automotive-component laboratory in Manesar, Haryana, reflecting rising demand from vehicle manufacturers and suppliers.

India offers strong opportunity in electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, automotive components, medical devices, chemicals, construction materials, cybersecurity and food analysis. The main restraint is uneven laboratory availability outside major industrial corridors.

Japan

Japan is a mature market with demanding quality standards and long-standing in-house testing capabilities. Automotive, electronics, industrial machinery, chemicals, medical technology and precision manufacturing are the largest user sectors.

Japan’s laboratory framework includes the JNLA system operated through International Accreditation Japan and the Japan Accreditation Board. Accredited reports can receive international recognition through mutual-recognition arrangements, reducing the need for duplicate testing in overseas markets.

Market growth will be moderate because the industrial base is established. Higher-value opportunities will come from autonomous vehicles, batteries, robotics, medical laboratories, hydrogen and AI governance.

Local organizations have strong customer relationships. International firms are most competitive where Japanese exporters require multi-country approvals or where global manufacturers need one service provider across several markets.

South Korea

South Korea has a high-value TIC market built around semiconductors, displays, batteries, vehicles, electronics, biotechnology and export manufacturing.

The Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme covers testing and calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, medical laboratories, product-certification bodies and validation or verification organizations. This supports broad acceptance of accredited technical results.

Demand is moving beyond conventional product testing. Battery lifecycle assessment, semiconductor contamination analysis, cybersecurity, carbon accounting and AI certification are developing quickly.

In 2025, Bureau Veritas agreed to acquire a South Korean life-cycle-assessment certification specialist. The transaction provides evidence that environmental product verification is becoming a commercially relevant service line in the country.

Middle East

The main markets in the Middle East are Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Qatar also creates specialist demand through LNG, construction and infrastructure projects.

Saudi Arabia’s product-conformity system requires manufacturers and importers to demonstrate compliance with relevant technical regulations. SASO accepts conformity assessment bodies for certification, inspection and testing activities.

The scope is broadening. Saudi technical regulations now cover areas such as electrical equipment, machinery, communications devices and autonomous vehicles. The autonomous-vehicle regulation was scheduled for mandatory application from April 29, 2026.

The region also generates large inspection volumes from oil and gas, petrochemicals, power, water, transport infrastructure and construction. Demand is often project-based, which can create revenue volatility.

Local laboratory capacity is improving, but complex testing may still be completed outside the region. This creates an opening for international providers willing to establish accredited laboratories close to industrial and logistics hubs.

Expert view: The United States and Europe will remain the largest high-value markets. India, China, South Korea and Saudi Arabia should deliver stronger percentage growth. Winning in these countries will require local accreditation and laboratory investment, not only a global brand.

Price pressure in standardized services
