This scale makes China a critical market for formates, propionates, acid blends and protected intestinal-health products. Large domestic acid production also supports competitive pricing.
The withdrawal of most growth-promoting medicated feed additives from commercial feed strengthened interest in nutritional and management-based alternatives. The policy removed growth-promotion uses while retaining regulated preventive and therapeutic uses where permitted.
Large integrated pork and poultry companies are the main adopters. Smaller producers remain more price-sensitive and may use low-cost acid blends without advanced delivery technology.
China’s strategic advantage is infrastructure scale. Large feed groups operate automated mills, internal testing laboratories and centralized purchasing systems. State-led livestock modernization and food-safety programs indirectly support adoption.
Domestic suppliers compete strongly in commodity acids. International companies retain an advantage in protected formulations, technical service and multinational quality documentation.
India
India is forecast to record the fastest growth among the markets assessed. Feed output reached roughly 57.7 million metric tons in 2025, rising by 4.5%.
Demand is concentrated in poultry, dairy, aquaculture and a gradually formalizing commercial-feed industry. Poultry integrators in southern and western India are the most established buyers. Aquafeed adoption is expanding in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
The commercial case is strengthened by warm storage conditions, variable grain moisture and long transportation routes. These conditions increase mold, bacterial and nutrient-loss risks.
Adoption remains uneven. Large integrators use formulated acidifiers and automated dosing, while small feed mills often purchase lower-cost powders or basic liquid blends.
India continues to tighten antibiotic-residue and food-chain controls. FSSAI issued updated provisions concerning antibiotic residues in 2026, adding pressure for better feed and veterinary-use practices.
Private investment will remain the main funding source. Poultry integrators, dairy companies and aquafeed manufacturers are expanding feed capacity and laboratory infrastructure. That said, price sensitivity will keep inclusion rates below European levels during much of the forecast period.
Japan
Japan is a mature but slow-growing market. Feed production was approximately 24.0 million metric tons in 2025, down 1.3% due to structural, economic and animal-disease pressures.
Demand is concentrated in high-quality feed, imported premixes, piglet nutrition, poultry hygiene and preservation. Buyers value consistent formulation, low odor, safe handling and documented product quality.
The market has limited volume upside because livestock production is stable or declining. So, revenue growth will depend on premiumization rather than tonnage.
Japanese feed manufacturers are likely to adopt:
- Lower-inclusion concentrated formulations.
- Protected butyrate and esterified acids.
- Products that tolerate pelleting and storage.
- Additives supported by detailed safety and performance data.
Funding is mainly corporate. Feed groups, trading companies and livestock integrators support product testing and distribution.
South Korea
South Korea has a smaller but technically advanced demand base. The market is centered on integrated swine, poultry and feed-manufacturing companies.
Adoption is strongest in piglet diets, feed hygiene and high-density poultry production. Buyers generally prefer imported or licensed premium technologies, although local formulation and distribution capabilities are improving.
Modern feed mills provide a good platform for automated liquid application and protected dry formulations. However, dependence on imported grain and specialty ingredients keeps buyers sensitive to exchange rates and delivered costs.
Growth will remain moderate. The strongest opportunities are in early-life swine nutrition, pathogen-risk management and combinations of organic acids with probiotics or phytogenic compounds.
Middle East
The Middle East produced approximately 38.3 million metric tons of feed in 2025, up 1.1%. Regional broiler-feed production reached about 13.6 million metric tons and increased by 2.7%. Saudi broiler feed rose by about 5%.
Saudi Arabia is the main high-growth market. The United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Türkiye and Jordan also provide commercial opportunities.
Warm temperatures, grain imports and extended storage increase the need for mold inhibition, feed preservation and water acidification. Large poultry companies are more likely to use formulated acids, while smaller mills remain dependent on distributors and imported premixes.
Government-supported food-security investment is improving poultry, dairy and aquaculture infrastructure. In October 2025, Saudi Arabia announced 28 agreements and memoranda of understanding worth more than SAR 3.5 billion across agriculture, livestock, poultry, dairy and aquaculture.
Expert view: India and Saudi Arabia offer the strongest percentage-growth opportunity. China offers the largest absolute revenue addition. Europe will remain the main market for premium formulation technology.

Opportunities and Business Insights
Emerging commercial-feed markets: India, Southeast Asia, Saudi Arabia and selected African markets are moving toward larger integrated feed operations. Acidifier penetration remains below mature-market levels, leaving room for both preservation-grade and performance-grade products.
Automated dosing and process monitoring: Standalone artificial intelligence is not yet a major buying criterion. Automation is more relevant. Feed mills can connect moisture, temperature and pH measurements with liquid-dosing pumps to reduce underdosing, excess acid use and batch inconsistency.
Cost-saving formulations: Suppliers can build stronger business cases around prevented feed spoilage, improved feed conversion and lower pathogen risk. Products that demonstrate measurable savings per metric ton of feed will outperform products sold only on ingredient specifications.
Market Restraints
Raw-material volatility: Formic and propionic acid prices remain exposed to chemical feedstocks, energy costs, plant utilization and freight.
Inconsistent farm results: Performance varies with feed composition, animal age, buffering capacity, hygiene and inclusion rate. Weak application practices may reduce repeat purchases.
Handling and palatability: Concentrated acids may create corrosion, odor and worker-safety concerns. Over-acidification can also reduce feed intake.
Regulatory complexity: Authorization, labeling and permitted claims vary by jurisdiction. Protected and multi-component formulations require more extensive technical documentation.
