India is likely to be the fastest-growing major country market through 2035.
Poultry feed is the primary commercial base. Dairy modernization, aquaculture, organized cattle feed, and silage production provide additional demand.
The main constraint is fragmentation. Many feed mills and farms still rely on short storage cycles, manual application, or inconsistent quality-control practices. This limits preservative use per tonne.
That said, the economics are changing. Humid conditions, monsoon-related spoilage, high grain prices, and longer interstate distribution make feed loss more visible.
India has also introduced meaningful infrastructure support. The Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund was extended with an outlay of approximately ₹29,610 crore, covering animal-feed plants and related infrastructure. The framework includes a 3% interest subvention for eligible projects. This can indirectly support modern dosing, feed testing, and quality-control capacity.
Visible multinational suppliers include Kemin Industries, Adisseo, BASF, Anpario, and Perstorp. Domestic chemical and premix companies remain important in basic acidifiers and mold inhibitors.
Expert view: India’s opportunity is not simply more livestock. It is the conversion of informal feed handling into organized production. Every new automated mill creates a cleaner route for measured preservative use.
Japan
Japan is a mature, high-specification market with slower volume growth.
The country imports substantial feed ingredients. Preservation value therefore lies in protecting material during marine transport, storage, premixing, and finished-feed production.
Japanese buyers prioritize product consistency, documentation, low odor, handling safety, and precise dosing. Premium antioxidant systems and stable dry formulations are commercially relevant.
Feed additives must be designated and used under Japan’s feed-safety framework. A substance approved for food use isn’t automatically permitted as a feed additive unless the appropriate feed designation exists.
Funding is mainly industry-led. Growth will come from product upgrades, aquafeed, specialty livestock diets, and replacement of older chemistries rather than a major increase in feed volume.
South Korea
South Korea has a concentrated and technically capable feed-manufacturing industry.
Demand is supported by imported grain, intensive swine and poultry production, aquaculture, and high-quality compound-feed formulations. Mold control is important during humid months, while oxidation protection matters in feed containing marine oils and other sensitive fats.
The Control of Livestock and Fish Feed Act establishes the national framework for feed supply, quality control, and safety. The legislation also allows public support for measures related to feed supply stability and quality improvement.
The market should grow at a moderate rate. Feed volumes are relatively mature, but technical-product penetration remains attractive. Japanese, European, American, and domestic suppliers compete through distributors and premix companies.
Middle East
The Middle East is relevant because feed ingredients are frequently imported and stored under hot conditions.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and selected Gulf countries represent the main commercial opportunities. Poultry, dairy, and aquaculture are the most attractive end-use sectors.
Heat alone doesn’t cause every spoilage problem. However, high temperature combined with moisture ingress, long port dwell times, and unsuitable storage can accelerate oxidation and microbial deterioration.
Saudi Arabia is investing in aquaculture, food security, and agricultural infrastructure. In September 2024, the government promoted aquaculture investment through agencies including the National Livestock and Fisheries Development Program, the Agricultural Development Fund, and other public and private institutions.
The UAE has relatively advanced food and feed traceability requirements. Abu Dhabi regulations permit authorities to trace, recall, or withdraw feed and feed ingredients across production, processing, import, export, and distribution stages.
Adoption remains below the United States and Western Europe. Still, preservation value per tonne can be high due to imported ingredients, demanding logistics, and premium livestock operations.
Expert view: In the Middle East, the commercial argument should focus on inventory protection. A preservative that protects imported grain or aquafeed through one difficult storage cycle may justify its full annual cost.

Automated liquid dosing, moisture sensors, inline monitoring, and batch-level recording can reduce both under-treatment and unnecessary preservative use.
This creates opportunities for suppliers to bundle chemicals with pumps, calibration, testing, and technical service.
Cost and Productivity Solutions
Commercial messages should focus on feed saved, nutrients protected, and storage days gained.
Products that demonstrate a lower total cost per protected tonne can outperform cheaper commodity chemicals.
Market Restraints
Price sensitivity remains high in basic feed formulations. Small mills may avoid preservation products when feed is sold quickly or spoilage losses aren’t measured.
Regulatory fragmentation creates another barrier. A formulation accepted in one country may require separate evidence, registration, or labelling in another.
Natural preservatives also face practical constraints. They can cost more, require higher inclusion, or produce variable results across feed matrices.
Finally, preservation can’t correct poor infrastructure. Leaking warehouses, uncontrolled moisture, inadequate cleaning, and incorrect dosing can overwhelm even a well-designed formulation.
Expert view: Suppliers shouldn’t market preservatives as a substitute for good storage. The strongest commercial offer combines chemistry, monitoring, and operating discipline.
